Portal 317
Parallel universes exist...

Portal 317 was originally created as an entry for a national graphic novel contest hosted by a company that wanted to focus on and promote independent artists and writers. They wanted something different—not the mainstream superheroes that wore spandex and had nifty powers. The winners of the contest would have funding to create a full-length graphic novel with their characters. Naturally, Josh and Mathew jumped at the opportunity, and started brainstorming.

Both creators settled upon the idea of a science-fiction theme, but didn’t want to involve the typical aliens that accompany the genre. Instead, they stumbled onto the concept of parallel universes that coexist at the same time. Think of a million trains rolling along on as many train tracks—only they’ll never cross. In the story, there are an infinite number of Earths, each with a different history and cultures brought on by the actions of the inhabitants. They are totally unaware that parallel universes exist—until a rift is accidentally opened between two existing side-by-side. Much like jumping from one “train” to another, inhabitants of one Earth are now able to cross over the rift “portals” into our world. On our Earth, Allison Noreen Angel is an ex-cop private investigator that is perpetually down on her luck. Faced with a multitude of problems—including alcoholism, paranoia, and trust issues—she’s hit a wall in her life. But when a string of bizarre and grisly murders grips the city, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s somehow connected. From the other “parallel” dimension, Police Detective Ben Franklin is sent to Earth to track down the interdimesional killer leaving his trail of murders all over New York. With the clock ticking, both Ben and Allison track down the illusive killer and set themselves on a path that will have both universes colliding... Portal 317 appears in PLB COMICS PRESENTS# 1 and 2.Due mostly to time constraints, for the time being it is being postponed, Mat and Josh plan to finish the story up at a later date in a graphic novel format.
